How can language faculty incorporate career readiness into introductory courses while building on existing learning objectives and classroom activities? This interactive workshop explores practical strategies for embedding career readiness into first-year language instruction, from syllabus design and course objectives to individual lessons and classroom activities. Using the NACE Career Readiness Competencies as a framework, participants will examine concrete examples of how existing instructional activities can support career-related learning outcomes and explore ways to make these connections more intentional and visible to students.

Speaker Bio: Dr. Ashley Voeks is a career-readiness consultant who works with language students and graduates to help them identify and leverage their skills on the job market and explore meaningful career pathways. Her consulting work also includes partnering with language program directors and faculty to integrate career readiness into curricula, learning objectives, and classroom instruction. Previously, she taught French language and literature at the University of Texas, Texas Tech University, and Oakland University, and she currently teaches French with the Alliance Française de Détroit. In her full-time role in government technology, she supports public-sector organizations in improving digital services.
