AED stands for Alpha Epsilon Delta and is a Pre Health Honor society focused on preparing students for careers in Medicine, Dentistry, Optometry, Podiatry, Veterinary Medicine and other Allied Health Professions. Our organization, SMU AED, is a chapter of the national organization and is focused on providing the pre-health community here on campus mentorship events, learning and service opportunities, and a community to connect with as they navigate their pre-health journey here at SMU.

During the spring semester, students can apply to join AED.

Eligibility requirements:
According to our constitution, the minimum requirements for active membership shall be:
(1) The student shall be engaged in courses leading to the study of medicine or other health care profession.
(2) The student shall have been enrolled in an institution of higher education for a minimum of 3 semesters, and have attained a 3.20 science (BCPM) GPA based on at least 3 semesters of pre-health professions coursework AND a 3.20 overall GPA.
(3) Character, general ability, and personality must be considered carefully in the selection of every member.
(4) For transfer students, the GPA used to determine scholastic eligibility at the new school will be determined by averaging all grades from both the old & new schools (and all science grades from both schools). No high school grades are accepted.
(5) Members shall be elected without any discrimination on the basis of race, sex, religion, creed or national origin.

Note: J-term, May-term and summer terms all count as semesters. This can include semesters at another university if your credits have transferred.

The office is located in Hughes-Trigg Student Center, Suite 207E and is open Monday through Friday from 1:30pm-5:00pm.

Check requests must be submitted to the Comptroller’s office by Monday at 5:00p.m. Those requests must include signatures from authorized signers, itemized receipts, and Forms W-9(if necessary). Checks may be available for pick up each Friday, if the check request form is complete and all documentation is present. The Federalist Society for Law and Public Policy Studies is a group of conservative and libertarian lawyers and law students founded on the principles that the state exists to preserve freedom, that the separation of governmental powers is central to our Constitution, and that it is emphatically the province and duty of the judiciary to say what the law is, not what the law should be.

The SMU Federalist Society seeks to promote awareness and foster fair and open debate about these principles in the SMU Law School community and beyond. Every year, we host scholars, judges, and practitioners to debate and discuss a range of law and policy topics.

The Federalist Society is about ideas. We do not lobby for legislation, take policy positions, or endorse candidates for public office. Our members hold diverse and often conflicting views on a broad range of issues.

Named for the founding President of SMU, the Hyer Society was established in 1983 to recognize SMU’s most intellectually gifted undergraduates who have distinguished themselves through high academic achievement. At a minimum, Hyer Society members must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.85 after 60 SMU credit hours. A transfer student must have 30 SMU graded hours and a cumulative grade point average of 3.85. Members are then chosen by a faculty committee based on academic performance and on an essay written each year on a different topic. Only a small fraction of SMU students are nominated each year for membership, roughly the top 4%-7% of the student body.

SMU has established the Kyle D. Miller Energy Management Program in the Maguire Energy Institute of the Cox School of Business to expand the school’s energy offerings in the graduate, undergraduate, and executive education programs. The program through its unique curricular and experiential initiatives is at the forefront of business education with a focus on valuation, risk management and technological innovations that are shaping the energy industry. SMU Trustee Tucker S. Bridwell ’73 and ’74 and a consortium of donors established the program to recognize Mr. Miller’s success in the energy industry. Within the program, scholarships funds are available to students (see Kyle D. Miller Energy Management Scholars).

Each Semester, the Maguire Institute faculty select a small group of students as Kyle D. Miller Energy Scholars.
Students are required to play a lead role in the Energy Institute programs and initiatives, mentor incoming students and represent Cox and the Maguire Energy Institute in case competitions.

Mustang Ballroom Dance Club strives to educate its members on Ballroom and Latin dancing in a fun and friendly environment. We offer classes from beginner to advanced (no previous experience is required). We also participate in competitions around Texas.

Our members participate in various social events both on and off campus, including monthly social dances and club dinners. We hope to foster a love of Ballroom and Latin dancing through these events and by participating in competitions.

Mustang Ballroom Dance Club teaches the following dances:
International Ballroom: Waltz, Tango, Viennese Waltz, Foxtrot, Quickstep
International Latin: Cha Cha, Samba, Rumba, Paso Doble, Jive

Our coaches are highly experienced in dancing and teaching. In addition to teaching here at Mustang Ballroom Dance Club, they compete locally and nationally. Mustang Ballroom Dance Club also facilitates a competitive team, and all members are encouraged to participate in the collegiate ballroom competitions we attend around the state of Texas. Past competitions include those at Rice University, the University of Texas at Austin, and the University of Houston.

Our comprehensive offerings include funding, mentorship, coaching, and networking opportunities allowing students to showcase their work and connect with peers in their field. The Engaged Learning Fellowship (ELF), Engaged Learning Starter Award (ELSA), Undergraduate Research Assistantships (URA), and Clinton Global Initiative University (CGIU) are among the programs offered by OEL. The SMU Panhellenic Council exists as the governing body over the seven National Panhellenic Conference (NPC) sororities located on our campus. The Council is comprised of seven executive officers and seven chapter delegates and junior delegates. It is the responsibility of the Council to unite all seven chapters in the spirit of Greek unity, to enforce the NPC guidelines, and to oversee and regulate the recruitment process. The Council works year-round to promote positive ideals of sorority life at SMU, and contribute to the SMU community through involvement, leadership, academic, philanthropic projects, school spirit, and overall support. Sororities were among the first organizations at SMU founded during 1915, with Alpha Omicron Pi, Phi Mu, and Alpha Delta Pi being the first three chapters to colonize. The growth of the SMU Panhellenic Council was prolific during the twenties and thirties, and over time SMU has hosted 15 different NPC chapters.

SMU Taos Leadership Institute is a new opportunity at SMU Taos during the July Term. With specially selected courses, and an intensive leadership training program, the Taos Leaderships Institute will advance your career readiness. These include, but are not limited to, students with attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), learning disabilities (LD) of listening, speaking, reading, writing, or mathematical type, and Autism (ASD). The office is located in Hughes-Trigg Student Center, Suite 207E and is open Monday through Friday from 1:30pm-5:00pm.

Check requests must be submitted to the Comptroller’s office by Monday at 5:00p.m. Those requests must include signatures from authorized signers, itemized receipts, and Forms W-9(if necessary). Checks may be available for pick up each Friday, if the check request form is complete and all documentation is present. This research cluster unites interdisciplinary researchers, scholars, and makers around SMU's foundry to explore metal casting as both historical practice and contemporary technique. Metal casting—a pivotal technological development in human history—remains crucial yet increasingly inaccessible. All students, faculty and staff are welcome to join, regardless of position, role, or depratment. Through community casting days, scholarly exchange, and hands-on creation with aluminum and bronze, we examine how material practices are temporal practices that shape and are shaped by history. The project returns industrially processed metals to human scale, preserving foundry knowledge while fostering critical inquiry. Activities are varied and decided on collectively by the group; see the "events" tab for prior events.
