The Hilltop Scholars Program (HSP) is a first-year honors program with a focus on community service and leadership. Named for the founding President of SMU, the Hyer Society was established in 1983 to recognize SMU’s most intellectually gifted undergraduates who have distinguished themselves through high academic achievement. At a minimum, Hyer Society members must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.85 after 60 SMU credit hours. A transfer student must have 30 SMU graded hours and a cumulative grade point average of 3.85. Members are then chosen by a faculty committee based on academic performance and on an essay written each year on a different topic. Only a small fraction of SMU students are nominated each year for membership, roughly the top 4%-7% of the student body.

Mission
SMU has established the Kyle D. Miller Energy Management Program in the Maguire Energy Institute of the Cox School of Business to expand the school’s energy offerings in the graduate, undergraduate, and executive education programs. The program through its unique curricular and experiential initiatives is at the forefront of business education with a focus on valuation, risk management and technological innovations that are shaping the energy industry. SMU Trustee Tucker S. Bridwell ’73 and ’74 and a consortium of donors established the program to recognize Mr. Miller’s success in the energy industry. Within the program, scholarships funds are available to students (see Kyle D. Miller Energy Management Scholars).

Each Semester, the Maguire Institute faculty select a small group of students as Kyle D. Miller Energy Scholars.
Students are required to play a lead role in the Energy Institute programs and initiatives, mentor incoming students and represent Cox and the Maguire Energy Institute in case competitions.

The Students' Association Comptroller Office manages finances for student organizations.

The office is located in Hughes-Trigg Student Center, Suite 207E and is open Monday through Friday from 1:30pm-5:00pm.

Check requests must be submitted to the Comptroller’s office by Monday at 5:00p.m. Those requests must include signatures from authorized signers, itemized receipts, and Forms W-9(if necessary). Checks may be available for pick up each Friday by 3:00pm, if the check request form is complete and all documentation is present. This research cluster unites interdisciplinary researchers, scholars, and makers around SMU's foundry to explore metal casting as both historical practice and contemporary technique. Metal casting—a pivotal technological development in human history—remains crucial yet increasingly inaccessible. All students, faculty and staff are welcome to join, regardless of position, role, or depratment. Through community casting days, scholarly exchange, and hands-on creation with aluminum and bronze, we examine how material practices are temporal practices that shape and are shaped by history. The project returns industrially processed metals to human scale, preserving foundry knowledge while fostering critical inquiry. Activities are varied and decided on collectively by the group; see the "events" tab for prior events.
