Jerry L. Hawkins, M.Ed. is an artist, educator, archivist, historian, futurist, Presidential Leadership Scholar, and Emmy Award-winning Executive Producer and Narrator for the “Recovering The Stories: Exploring the History and Resilience in Dallas Communities” PBS/KERA Documentary Series. The series chronicles different neighborhoods and significant events from across Dallas, tracing the impacts on BIPOC communities from the past to present. From Fair Park to Little Mexico and neighborhoods in between, this video series is a closer look at how subjects like police brutality and gentrification have disproportionately affected BIPOC communities in Dallas.

For 7 years, Jerry served as the Founding Executive Director of Dallas Truth, Racial Healing & Transformation, an initiative of W.K. Kellogg Foundation & Communities Foundation of Texas. Jerry is the founder of the Hawkins Archives & Works (thaw) and the writer of “Archiving The Future” for Nasher Sculpture Center's Magazine, The Walls Project’s Dr. Harry Robinson, Jr. 2025 Legacy Award winner, and was selected as one of D Magazine’s “Dallas 500 Most Powerful Business Leaders” in 2021 and 2022. Jerry’s first book offering, A People’s History of Dallas, will be published in 2027 by Deep Vellum Books. Jerry was formerly the Founding Project Director of Bachman Lake Together for The Dallas Foundation, and the proud father of Trinity, Jaali and Asha.

Free food will be provided to attendees during the program.
