"The Meadows Museum at SMU: 25 Years on the Boulevard" - Hispanic Heritage Month Lunch and Learn

The Meadows Museum opened its doors in 1965 following a generous gift of Spanish art from Algur H. Meadows. Although originally located in the School that bears his name (now the The Meadows Foundation Gallery and Dean’s Suite), in 2001, it moved to its prominent current location on Bishop Boulevard. A reflection of the dedication and vision of Dallas philanthropists, the “building on the boulevard” has enabled the great expansion of programs and the unparalleled collection of Spanish art. 

Amanda W. Dotseth is the Linda P. and William A. Custard Director of the Meadows Museum, SMU. She completed her PhD on Romanesque Architecture at the Courtauld Institute of Art in 2015 and has held grants from the Kress, Fulbright, and Mellon Foundations as well as at the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC). Her research focuses on medieval Spain but has addressed a wide range of topics, including European old master painting, medieval treasuries, and collecting history. Dotseth has curated dozens of exhibitions including, Fernando Gallego and His Workshop: The Altarpiece from Ciudad Rodrigo, Zurbarán: Jacob and His Twelve Sons, and El Greco, Goya, and a Taste for Spain: Highlights from the Bowes Museum, Canvas & Silk: Historic Fashion from Madrid’s Museo del Traje, and Murillo: Picturing the Prodigal Son. Her current project focuses on medieval art and pilgrimage: At Journey’s End: Treasures from the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela, which opens at the Meadows Museum in spring 2027.
