Organized in collaboration with Armstrong Faculty in Residence Willie Baronet and our Engage Dallas cause, this is the fifth annual HOME IS A JOURNEY program. The event will begin at Doak Walker Plaza, first with the creation of blessing bags, free food and some announcements. Participants will then march across SMU campus while carrying signs created by those experiencing homelessness to Dallas Hall Lawn/Flag Pole area for the conclusion of the event. Representatives from student led organizations and others will share about how we can inspire positive change in our community. This event hopes to raise awareness and compassion for the issue of homelessness.

Willie Baronet has been buying and collection homeless signs since 1993 as part of the long-term art project WE ARE ALL HOMELESS. A documentary film about this project, "Signs of Humanity", is available on Amazon Prime. There is an exhibit of these signs, as well as portraits by Canadian photographer Leah den Bok on display in the Jordan Gallery in the Meadows School of the Arts through November 17, 2023.

This event connects to our commons, to Engage Dallas, and to the greater campus and Dallas community. It brings awareness to our social issue of homelessness and brings together students, faculty and staff. It connects to the SMU Student Affairs strategic plan of global consciousness and social responsibility.
